Walk along the old city, see woman in black sitting in the corner, see her holding her hand, see her looking down, see only her eyes being visible, check the pocket, find some change. Walk towards her, drop some coins in her hand, try talking to her, realise her not speaking my language, decide to walk away.

Keep walking, see another woman in black sitting in the corner, see her looking about twenty, see her try not looking at anyone’s face, drop some coins in her hand, walk away. Keep walking, see an old woman weeping, see her asking for some change, drop some coins in her hand, keep walking.

Talk about it with K, she says, “Yes, most of them are widows. Their religion doesn’t allow them to go to work, you see? I know it’s so sad and stupid. And some men force their wives to do it, sometimes.”
